The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) is planning to restart construction on the Mansfield Commuter Rail Station Accessibility Improvements Project in mid-April and is expecting substantial completion in September 2019, with final completion in November 2019.
As per the MBTA, the reasons for the construction delays are as follows:
“Our first delay can be attributed to FTA (Federal Transit Agency) for having us stop all work on the platform until we resolved a scope funding issue. This caused a delay of all platform work for just under 1 year. Another delay was waiting on Amtrak to approve our scope of work on the platform and platform edge. This delay took more than 6 months. Of course another delay to the project is the two winter shut downs we’ve had. We don’t want to pour any concrete during the winter otherwise we would experience unnecessary maintenance and each time it started getting cold we were ready to start pouring concrete, but had to wait for warmer temperatures.”
Please be aware that this project is not being managed by the Town of Mansfield but if you have any questions or comments we will get them to the MBTA and will try to get you the answers. Please call the Department of Public Works at 508-261-7335.
