Welcome to the Town of Mansfield’s Downtown Committee Traffic Box Wrapping Project.
This is an ongoing project to help beautify Mansfield by decorating Traffic Control Boxes with artwork wraps. Please see information below on our first location, DePillo Square located on Chauncy Street at North Main Street/Thomas Street.
DePillo Square location:
The first Traffic Light Control Box (see picture located on the right) is located at DePillo Square on Chauncy Street at North Main Street/Thomas Street. The wrap shows an eagle flying in front of an American flag taken by photographer Charlene McNeil, a local Mansfield resident. The flags, located across from the Congregational Church near South Common., were part of the Field of Honor flag installation.
The American theme was chosen to help represent this area honoring Shipfitter Second Class , Raymond J. DePillo who served our country during World War II. DePillo’s memorial marker is located in this area. DePillo participated in many land combat support actions in the South Pacific, including the Rabaul strike, the Gilbert Islands operation, and strike at the Mariana Islands. On May 11, 1945, he was killed in action while performing duties during an air support effort for American troops at Okinawa.
