Mansfield Conservation Department -2022 Trail Steward Program

DO YOU WANT TO HELP KEEP OUR TRAILS SAFE?

The Town of Mansfield’s Conservation Department is looking for volunteers to help with walking our major conservation areas in the spring and fall to assess for any safety issues along the trails and the associated parking areas.   You will be assigned a specific trail system to walk and record any safety concerns to be recorded on a Trail Assessment Form.

The Conservation Department will hold training workshop on the Trail Assessment Procedure on April 14th @6pm at Townhall

Also, as part of the walk, you will be permitted to use hand held clippers to remove small branches or remove downed branches that are intruding into the trail corridor.  The use of electric/gas powered hand tools (chainsaw, sawsall, electric hedge trimmers, etc.) will not be permitted. Minors under the age of 18 should have an adult sign the waiver and accompany them.

We will be assessing the following trails systems:

  • Sweets Pond- off Otis St.
  • Great Woods-off Oak St.
  • Marie Strese-off Ware St.
  • Corporal Hardy- off Maple St.
  • Taylor’s Hill-off Judy’s Lane
  • Plymouth Street-within Plymouth St Recreation Area
  • Mill Pond-off of East St.

If you are interested in volunteering for the 2022 Trail Steward Program, please fill out this registration form along with the volunteer waiver form here. You can return it to Katelyn Merrill Gonyer, Environmental and Conservation Planner, via hard copy at the Conservation Department in townhall or email the PDF to trails@mansfieldma.com. Please feel free to email or call 508-651-6454 if you have any questions.

Once registered, you will be invited to a brief training workshop on Wednesday, April 14th at 6pm in Town Hall, 6 Park Row (conference room 2 A/B).

I look forward to working with residents that care about these trails and are willing to help keep Mansfield’s trails safe and enjoyable for all!
