New Homes or Additions

Fire Prevention Requirements

The Fire Prevention Office requires a plan review prior to building or adding onto your home. You need to bring the following:

  • 2 sets of marked plans – they must show the locations of smoke and heat detectors. This department no longer marks plans. Your architect or electrician should know how to mark your plans.
  • A check to the Town of Mansfield in the amount of $50 per new home or addition.
  • Your building permit application (available at the Building Department) with the front page filled out.

You will receive your plans and building permit application back upon approval or denial.

Review Procedure

The Fire Prevention office usually has plans ready for pick up the following day, if time allows. However, please bear in mind that Chapter 9 of the State Building Code allows ten working days for plan review. This office does not review plans when you bring them in - you must leave them for review. We make every effort to review plans as quickly as possible. When you’re ready for inspection, you must phone or come in to set up an appointment.
