Public Notice

The ninth edition of the building code went into full effect on January 1, 2018. The new ninth edition of the Massachusetts State Building Code is comprised of the following 2015 International Code Council (ICC) documents along with Massachusetts amendments:

• 248 CMR 2017 plumbing code
• 521 CMR AAB/Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
• International Building Code (IBC)
• International Energy Conservation Code (IECC)
• International Existing Buildings Code (IEBC)
• International Mechanical Code (IMC)
• International Residential Code (IRC)
• international Swimming Pool and Spa code (ISPSC)
• NEC 2017 / 527-12 CMR electrical code
• NFPA 13 / 527 CMR 1 fire code

Amendments

Each of these documents has been modified to some extent by the Massachusetts amendment process. The following are the amendments used:

• The amendments to the ninth edition of the code are now available at the State House Bookstore and may be purchased by accessing information at the Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts website.
• An unofficial version of the amendment package is also posted on the Department of Public Safety (DPS) website.
• All international codes may be purchased through the International Code Council.
