REQUIREMENTS by the Fire Prevention Office
for NEW HOMES or ADDITIONS:

The Fire Prevention Office requires a plan review PRIOR to building or adding onto your home.

You need to bring the following:

  • 2 sets of MARKED plans – they MUST show the locations of smoke & heat detectors.  This department no longer marks plans.  Your architect or electrician should know how to mark your plans.
  • Your building permit application (available at the building dept.) with the front page filled out.
  • A check to the Town of Mansfield in the amount of $25.00 per new home or addition.

You will receive your plans and building permit application back upon approval or denial.

NEW CONSTRUCTION FIRE ALARM FORM (coming soon)

The Fire Prevention office usually has plans ready for pick up the following day, if time allows.  However, please bear in mind that Chapter 9 of the State Building Code allows TEN working days for plan review.  This office does NOT review plans when you bring them in – you must leave them for review.  We make every effort to review plans as quickly as possible.  When you’re ready for inspection, you must phone or come in to set up an appointment.

OIL BURNER INSTALLATION:

Notification of the installation of an oil burner must be made to this office PRIOR to the actual installation.  A member of the Fire Prevention Division will contact the homeowner to schedule an inspection

Only a licensed oil burner technician may install your system.

It is the responsibility of the homeowner or the installer to make an appointment with this department for an inspection.

Home Fire Alarm and Oil Burner inspections in NEW homes are done at the same time.

Please consider that we are very often out of the office doing commercial or residential inspections.  If you phone and it goes to voice mail, kindly leave a message, as we will be sure to call you back as expeditiously as possible.  Thank you.
