Sewer FAQ’s:

How do I Tie into Town Sewer?

  1. You will need to know if your property has sewer available in the street.  If you are not sure if there is sewer available to your property call the Engineering Department for information.
  2.  If sewer is available to your property, you will need to contact a Town of Mansfield Registered Drainlayer.  A Registered Drainlayer is the person(s) who will physically do the excavation and sewer installation.  Registered Drainlayer’s are licensed by the Town of Mansfield to perform work on sewers and are bonded and insured to protect the Town and YOU.  To obtain a current list of Registered Drainlayer’s please contact the Engineering Department.
  3. Apply for a permit.  A Sewer Connection Permit must be applied for at the Engineering Department by either the property owner or the Drainlayer, but it is most common for the Drainlayer to do so.  The permit fee is $100 plus $1 for each foot of sewer pipe over 100 feet.  Please note that a sketch of the proposed sewer service with all applicable fittings, bends, and cleanouts is required with the sewer permit application.  NOTE:  A VALID SEWER PERMIT IS REQUIRED BEFORE ANY WORK IS DONE TO INSTALL OR REPAIR A SEWER MAIN OR SERVICE.
  4. Call the Engineering Department for an inspection.  An inspection is required during the installation of the sewer.  The Drainlayer must arrange for the inspection 24 hours in advance.
