COA TO HOST BRISTOL COUNTY DISTICT ATTORNEY SUTTER
The Mansfield Council On Aging will be hosting the Bristol County District Attorney for a workshop on Monday, March 29th from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. DA Samuel Sutter and staff members from his office will present information about emotional and physical abuse of seniors, financial exploitation, warning signs and how to find assistance to resolve these issues.

The workshop will include presentations and a question and answer period. DA Sutter and his staff will be available to speak with privately for a brief period after the presentation. FRIENDS OF THE DROP IN CENTER PLAN BAKE AND CRAFT SALE
The Friends of the Drop In Center will be holding the annual Spring Bake and Craft Sale on Wednesday, March 31st at the COA from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The sale will feature freshly baked breads, cookies and cakes, and seasonal hand crafted items.

The Friends will raffle a food basket and a 1 night stay at the Mansfield Holiday Inn, a certificate donated by the Mansfield VFW and the Holiday Inn. The Friends will accept donations of crafts and baked goods starting at 8:00 AM on Wednesday, March 31st. RED SOX OPENING DAY CELEBRATION
Mansfield seniors are invited to the Council On Aging to celebrate the opening day of Red Sox baseball on Thursday, April 1st. A “ball park” lunch of hot dogs at 11:30 AM will kick off the day’s festivities, with box seating for the game in the COA “sports pub” for the pre-game show starting at 12:15 PM. Snacks and beverages will be available.

Come see the Red Sox vs. the Minnesota Twins in the last pre-season series starting at 1:05 PM. The cost for lunch is a suggested and voluntary donation of $2, and the remainder of the program is free. Pre-registration is required. ANNUAL SPRING TEA OFFERED
The Council On Aging will be holding the annual Spring Tea on Friday, April 16th at 11:30 AM. The tea will feature a petit luncheon with tea and other beverages. REPRESENTATIVE POIRIER TO SPONSOR SENIOR SPECTACULAR
Area seniors are invited to attend the 2010 Senior Spectacular on Friday, April 23rd from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Living Waters Conference Center in North Attleboro. This FREE event is sponsored by Representative Betty Poirier, and includes a variety of workshops and demonstrations, information booths and exhibits, free health screenings, a fashion show, and raffles.

A continental breakfast and lunch will be served. The Senior Spectacular is an opportunity for Mansfield seniors to meet seniors from other towns and learn about changes and trends in services like Medicare programs and other health insurances, financial planning, and other benefits available to older citizens. Registration for this program is required. Transportation is available for those who wish to attend and have no other way to travel.

SUCCESSFUL AGING IN PLACE
The Sharon Adult Center is sponsoring a housing options workshop for older adults on Monday, April 26th at 1:15 PM at the Sharon Community Center Ballroom, 219 Massapoag Avenue, Sharon. The workshop will feature a panel of speakers who will address issues seniors face when aging in place. Issues to be explored include:

    • Pitfalls and Potentials of Elder Equity Conversions (Reverse Mortgages);
    • Alternative Resources;
    • Property Tax Relief Options.

Speakers include Len Raymond, Executive Director of Homeowner Options for Massachusetts Elders, Stephen Matthews, Attorney, MetroWest Legal Services, William Fowler, Finance Director, Town of Sharon, and local COA Directors from the MCOA Property Tax Relief Task Force.

SENIOR ACTION DAY PLANNED
Massachusetts Senior Action Council is holding the annual Senior Action Day on Wednesday, April 28th at 10:30 AM in the Great Hall at the State House in Boston. Join hundreds of Massachusetts seniors from across Massachusetts at the annual senior lobbying day.

Testimony will be given on issues such as affordable housing options, home care services and the high costs of health insurance and prescription medications. Time will be available to visit Representatives Betty Poirier and Jay Barrows and Senator James Timilty.
